Day three and the puppies are all gaining weight and doing well.  We started the Bio Sensor program tonight.

With the help of my boys and my mom, we named the puppies alphabetically in birth order (well, for the c-section group, we made up the order):

We have nine healthy babies!  The first five were born in the wee hours of the morning, June 25th.  The next four came via c-section several hours later.

3 mantle males
2 mantle females
2 piebald males
2 piebald females

Mom & babies are all doing great!

Poor Kizzy…there just isn’t a comfortable position at this point!

We had an x-ray done on Monday, the 16th, and saw 7-8 babies!

I think she looks huge already.  Went through some old pictures of her mom, Skyy, while pregnant (with Kizzy!) and found a Day 41 image of her:

Have an x-ray scheduled for June 16th, which will give us an idea of how many babies Kizzy has in store for us.

 

Decided to forgo an ultrasound, based on an already obvious growing belly!

Ever modest, below is a normal position for Miss Kizzy.  I think she is trying to bake the babies in the sun!

 

Kizzy has been bred to Fender.  We don’t know yet if it took, but hoping for puppies the end of June!  See more info about Fender

Have you considered a rescue Dane?  A great way to obtain a wonderful companion!  If you’re in my area, check out the Upper Midwest Great Dane Rescue.  Otherwise, the GDCA has a national rescue listing.

I am also happy to offer referrals and to assist people in finding and screening breeders.  Email me at bev@fotodanes.com with your location and any color preferences.  We encourage you to do your own research on anyone’s recommendations, including ours. Don’t just stop at asking a breeder if they have Great Dane puppies for sale!
